Pavilion Status: Complete!
We are happy to announce the Pavilion is officially open to all building tenants! We celebrated its grand reveal on Thursday, June 1 with a classic summer spread of hot dogs, ice cream, appetizers, and refreshing beverages. Thank you everyone for coming out to celebrate the project’s completion – especially those who journeyed from Colorado to Kansas to enjoy the festivities! The whole courtyard was alive with friendly chatter and people practicing their putt-putt skills – it was a great way to kick off summer!
Booking Details to Come
The Pavilion’s outdoor space offers tenants three conference rooms which are designed to accommodate approximately 12-14 people. Each room name pays homage to iconic parts of Kansas City: Nelson, Liberty, and Kauffman. Building tenants can begin booking the outdoor meeting spaces through Freshdesk starting June 19.
The courtyard, however, is available for immediate use as of Monday, June 5.
General Rules
The versatile outdoor space is perfect for small team meetings, leisurely lunch breaks, putt-putt practice, and more summer soirees yet to come. But as with any shared space, general rules must be applied to keep enjoying it freely.
- Noise: With the Pavilion parallel to first-floor offices, please keep voices and/or audio to a respectful volume to avoid interrupting tenants working inside.
- Cleanliness: Maintain the Pavilion’s pristine appearance by picking up after yourself.
- Grill: The outdoor grill is only allowed for use during scheduled events. The Operations Team will follow up with more information on this soon.
Thank You JRMA Architects and Tom Martin Construction!
We want to recognize and extend our sincere thanks to the many skilled individuals who brought the Pavilion to life over the last two years. A special mention goes to JRMA Architects for their stunning design and Tom Martin Construction for building the blueprint into a tangible reality. Without their tireless efforts, this extraordinary space wouldn’t be possible. Thank you all for making the Pavilion a remarkable achievement!
HUMAN RESOURCES
The Summer of HR
From hiring programs to retirement savings, the Human Resources department has been hard at work implementing new systems and processes for all operating companies. Along with these initiatives, the HR team will be alerting employees about upcoming summer training to ensure we’re producing quality work and treating co-workers with respect.
Goodbye Empower. Hello Paychex!
Current 401(k) Savings Transition to New Program
In early May, HR announced their plan to transition our 401(k) savings program from Empower to Paychex. This move will create synergy across our current HR software, Paychex Flex, which manages KKM and their operating companies’ payrolls. It’s an exciting new development that will simplify and (hopefully) boost participation in employees’ retirement journey.
The HR team has built out a schedule to communicate notable dates for all participants. Please review the outline below:
- 6/9/23 (Today!): Last day to make changes to your current contributions in Empower’s system. Changes made on or before this date will remain in force until you are granted access to the Paychex Retirement module.
- 6/19/23 & 6/20/23: Paychex will hold educational webinars to review the new platform (invites attached to this email). You may begin making changes to your contributions, investment allocations, etc. at this time.
- 6/30/23: The first paycheck from which payroll contributions will be sent directly to Paychex Retirement Services.
- 7/25/23–8/25/23: Blackout period. During this time, funds from your Empower account will be transitioned to your Paychex Retirement account. You will not have access to your Empower account during this time.
New Recruiting Platform: JazzHR
Many of our operating companies are now utilizing JazzHR, a talent acquisition and recruiting software used to simplify the hiring process. Since its implementation, the HR team has seen success in the number and quality of candidates sent to the management team. The platform has improved the review and interview process making it more efficient to onboard new staff.
HR Training Updates
Quality Service Training
HR is beginning to deliver Quality Service training to employees of operating companies. As part of the Kompass Business Services interacting with our operating companies, please let the HR team know if you or anyone on your team is interested in this training.
Annual Compliance Training
Annual compliance training will take place this summer (harassment, reporting issues, etc.). The goal of this training is to ensure employees are educated on how to handle compliance issues and the importance of reporting them to HR. More information on the official starting dates will be communicated soon.

Dynamic Logistix recognized as one of Ingram’s Top 100 Private Companies

On May 30, Dynamic Logistix was ranked No. 83 on Ingram’s Top 100 Private-Sector Companies list. The local Kansas City business magazine determines these standings based on total revenue earnings from the preceding year. In 2022, DLX grew its profit margins by an impressive 64.62% – bumping its previous ranking of No. 97 on Ingram’s prestigious list up to No. 83.
Dynamix Logistix CEO, Jeff Auslander, attributes the company’s continued success to their number one resource: the people.
“Ultimately, this award is a tribute to our team. A tribute for building a state-of-the-art product middle market shippers were begging for to solve their supply chain problems. Combine that with the best people and our award-winning culture and you have your result! We’re honored to again be recognized by Ingram’s and in the company of such awesome Kansas City businesses.”

Kompass continues commitment to our community with multiple charitable efforts.
We’re dedicated to helping the people in our Kansas City community revitalize neighborhoods, restore homes, and build new houses.

In April, Kompass sponsored its first Rock the Block volunteer event with the operating companies. Over 75 volunteers came together to work on home restoration projects in the Wendell Phillips neighborhood. Together we dedicated two days to help restore pride in homeownership for 10 families. We are already looking forward to next year’s Rock the Block event!
Kompass Kapital and Habitat for Humanity: Partners since 2015
Habitat for Humanity helps families in our Kansas City community build strength, stability, and self-reliance through shelter. Kompass Kapital has partnered with Habitat KC since 2015, and starting in 2021, Habitat provided the opportunity for Kompass to start focusing its efforts specifically on the Wendell Phillips Neighborhood in KCMO. The Wendell Phillips neighborhood is one of 15 Purpose Built Communities in the US. The holistic plan to revitalize this neighborhood involves a mixture of incomes, land uses and housing types. Over the next five years, Habitat KC will build more than 30 new construction homes and work with existing homeowners to provide minor and critical home repairs.

Kompass sponsors third Women’s Build Volunteer Event
In May, Kompass sponsored its third Women’s Build Volunteer Event with Habitat for Humanity. This year, Kompass’ 30 volunteers worked on four different new construction builds alongside three Habitat KC homeowners.
In total, Kompass has invested over $150,000 in donations and over 300 volunteer hours in the Wendell Phillips Neighborhood. In May, Habitat graciously awarded Kompass Kapital with the 2023 Strategic Partnership award for Kompass’ continued support through our Women’s Build and Rock the Block sponsorships.
Thank you to all those who participated this year. Kompass will continue to deploy resources toward this long-term neighborhood project. We hope you can join us again next year!

KBS Ticketing System is Now Live

The Kompass Business Services (KBS) Ticketing System is now available for Operations, HR, and Marketing requests. The KBS ticketing system’s goal is to streamline requests for faster response, better communication, and shorter service delivery times. This way, operating companies get to keep person-to-person interactions without having to draft a lengthy email. The ticketing system simplifies the request process into three easy steps.
Important to note there are designated users of the ticketing system within your organization. For any questions on who those individuals are, please contact your management.
If you are having any issues submitting a ticket, please contact IT Director, Joe Leigh at jleigh@kompasskapital.com.
