Closing the Housing Gap: KNOW Supports Habitat KC’s Women Build in Lykins Neighborhood
Kansas City, Mo., May 16, 2025 – Kompass Network Of Women (KNOW) volunteered in the Lykins neighborhood to support Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build initiative. This program helps female-led families gain access to safe, affordable housing.
KNOW is a women’s leadership group under the Kompass Kapital umbrella. The group’s mission is to empower and connect women across KKM’s companies, industries, and the broader community. The mission comes to life through hands-on support of local efforts like Women Build.
Volunteers from Airshare, Dynamic Logistix, Kompass Kaptial and Moonshot Solutions spent the day unloading lumber and painting interiors. Together, they put the finishing touches on a Kansas City woman’s future home!
Many women face real barriers in the housing market, encountering stigma, economic inequality, and structural racism. Women Build works to close the gap in Kansas City, giving more women the opportunity to build stability for themselves and their family.
Today, more than 80% of Habitat KC homeowners are single mothers. In 2024, Women Build served 329 women and repaired 113 homes with help of dedicated volunteers like our KNOW members.
One of those homeowners, Michelle Grado shared, “I’m doing this for my children. I believe that having stability is one major key in having a healthy life. I want to give them a place to make memories, have a stable place to grow, and live a comfortable life.”
KNOW is proud to support Habitat KC’s mission. By helping women achieve homeownership, they’re investing in stronger families, stronger communities, and long-term generational impact.
